We kicked off summer with Great Grandpa Hansen in Blackfoot, Idaho - the day after school got out. We had a BLAST. It is so nice to visit small town life and do... NOTHING.
Grandpa's health is getting worse, so we enjoyed everything he had to tell us. He was very spiritual and had many uplifting things to say. One scripture he kept quoting word for word was Doctrine and Covenants 14:7 which reads; And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.
That has had an impact. It is simply put, but contains the most powerful blessing: Eternal life. My Grandpa so looks forward to the day he meets his maker. He is anxious to see his sweetheart again and has a full knowledge of where he is headed IF he but endures. It's hard to understand why someone might not want to live anymore. In Grandpa's case, all his friends and loved ones have passed on. It breaks my heart. I couldn't help but feel like he is so close to the veil - and he knows his wife is just on the other side. I miss him already. I know his time on earth is short. We were so lucky to get to see him again. Just after we got home, we got a phone call that he has about 2 months to live. An answered prayer for him and a dreadful reality to my Mother. How blessed we are to look forward to a life after this. It is just too depressing to think that life ends here on earth. With all the loss surrounding us, I KNOW there's more - and my Grandpa's right - that's pretty exciting.
Boden calling Daddy to tell him we're on our way HOME!
