grandma tillie

Velma Norrita Anderson-Hansen aka "tillie"

We made an unexpected trip last week back to Blackfoot, ID. Grandma passed away in her sleep. We all saw it coming, and my Mom was lucky to be there in her last days. She will be missed.

We are so lucky to have the knowledge that we do about death and the afterlife. It makes funerals much easier to attend. While it is sad, we know that she is happy and pain free. Funerals more than anything, are family reunions for us. We were able to see family that we hadn't seen in years.

The drive was nice.{LONG} My sister came from Missouri. Her kids don't get to see the beautiful northwest in the winter. Her oldest, Preston, looked out the car window and said, "Heavenly Father really knew what he was doing..." So true. The Blue mountains were covered in ice and beautiful.

Here are some pictures from our trip:
We also stopped by to see my Brother in Northern Idaho on the way home. We were able to see Lucas' big cousins play basketball. He LOVES his cousins and LOVES to kiss them!

high school flashback

I've been playing on a city league basketball team which has been a TON of fun. Good woman's leagues are hard to come by. When I have games, I usually leave Lucas with my parents as Jimmy goes off to Youth Night every Wednesday. Jimmy and Lucas were able to come to one of my recent games. It was fun to have my boys cheering me on in the bleachers. Before the game, Jimmy told Lucas, "Cheer as LOUD as you can, because Mommy will be there to cheer you on for the rest of your life."

This reminded of me of my WAY COOL, DEVOTED parents who were there at EVERY game of mine. I remember one time in particular, when the Mariners had a good year, I happened to have a high school volleyball game during one of their big games. (My Dad wasn't a big volleyball fan, but drug himself out to the games to show his support.) Most parents quietly listened to the M's on their headphones in the stands and now and then would announce the score to everyone that cared. Not my parents.
As we were warming up on the court, I hear everyone start laughing. I turn around to see MY Dad - Walking in the door with nothing but a bright yellow BOOM BOX on his shoulder. (gangsta style) All parents got to hear the baseball game on the radio, whether they wanted to or not!
At least he was there supporting his little girl.

I can't wait to watch Lucas from the sidelines while he competes, from the audience during performances, from the curb while he rides his bike or even from the couch as he takes his first steps. I will cheer him on. In fact, he might get a little annoyed by me. You better believe I'll be wearing his number, holding pom poms and yelling cheers. I hope to be as much support to him as my parents were to me.
{minus the boom box}

obscene phone call...

I received a call close to midnight. I ignored it the first time, but the second time it rang, I picked up:

me: hello?
crazy lady: ummm... hi.

long pause.

crazy lady: you called me - who are you?
me: who is this?
crazy lady named Sheryl: Sheryl.
crazy lady named Sheryl: You called me at like 6am. (she sounded offended)
me: well, now YOU are calling ME at midnight.
crazy lady named Sheryl: Oh. You must have dialed the wrong number. bye.
(I wasn't even awake at 6am)

I HATE when I get calls like this. Really? If someone called you that REALLY wanted to talk to you, they would leave a message. I don't know you, Sheryl. Leave me ALONE.

Do any of you return unknown numbers that appear on your cell phones?

For the record, I can't stand it. Don't ever call me asking me who I am. ugh.

Medela "Pump in Style"

Seriously? Is there really a way to "Pump In Style?" I own one of these bad boys, and I haven't figured out how it can be done "in style". Just wondering.

Sound to Narrows

Ok. We have a resolution for '09. Jimmy and I are going to prepare ourselves for the Sound to Narrows in June. We both have run a 5k, and are ready for more. This one is a 12k. We will be running it with my sister. (hopefully with and not behind!) She is crazy and runs every morning rain or shine at 5am. She may end up carrying me. ;) We are wanting to run a half marathon, but we'll take it one step at a time! Let's be realistic here.
If you don't see any posts after June, You'll know I didn't survive.

Lucas will be training and preparing for the 20 yard diaper dash. He has his work cut out for him, seeing that he can't walk or crawl yet.

Wish us luck!
